Overview
This narrative-driven website uses storytelling to create a deeper connection to the current condition of migratory monarch butterflies. By immersing visitors in the butterflies' journey, the website not only informs but also inspires action, encouraging individuals to support conservation efforts through simple yet impactful steps like planting milkweed, protecting pollinator habitats, and advocating for environmental policies.
Research
At the beginning of my research process for The Monarch Mile, I explored numerous websites that focused on butterfly conservation. Many of them, while informative, felt outdated in style, with limited design and heavy blocks of text that were filled with scientific words. Others were hyper-specific to certain regions, which limited their relevance to a broader audience.
I wanted The Monarch Mile to be visually engaging, easy to navigate, and accessible to everyone, whether they were completely new to conservation efforts or already deeply involved. By focusing on clear, action-oriented content and using immersive visual storytelling, I aimed to bridge the gap between complex scientific information and everyday understanding. My goal was to build a platform that not only educates but also inspires people everywhere to take part in preserving this incredible species.
